I'd like to say thank you to all the courageous people who were at Tower Grove Park on Saturday the August 19th 2009. Openly expressing oneself in public near the bible buckle of St. Louis is no easy feat. It took a warrior's heart to give up time with friends and family to pray in the full-mind-body-breath-spirit-way for Peace. I'm not familiar with the community of Yogis in St. Louis. Living on the other side of the Mississippi, it can be hard to connect to like minded people but the turn out was awesome! What? Like a hundred people participated and energy had me pushing mother earth 108 times for love and life and peace. The anticipation made my week even more than the participation I have to hand it to the drummers, thank you very much, the care the instructors took to allow people to go at their own pace, you were terrific, and the valiant ones who completed the mental, physical and spiritual journey to see the end for peace. Often, I find myself in beautiful places outside practicing alone. I know the fear one gets when practicing in public. You think people might be looking, questioning and judging you as you go through your postures. But I found the expression of movement linked to nature difficult to contain at times, so I indulge. The Big Fountains and Wading Pool at Forest Park is one of my favorite places to practice out doors in the city. The Shawnee is one of my favorite wild places to practice in the State of Illinois. This is the second time I've done the 108 malas the first being in a studio and, hey everybody, don't you prefer the park? So all you beautiful passionate Yogis out there, get outside with your practice. Keep going to Kieth's class on Saturday and to some Peacefulism (opposite of Terriorism?) by getting your practice outside where people can see you. Outside I say to all you Peacfulists (opposite of Terroist?) and show people the unlocked moving prayers in your practice. What could be more beautifully non-violent and subversive than that? >
